Curriculum Assessment & Design for PODs

1. Objective

The objective of this SOP is to establish a standardised process for evaluating, refining, and creating curricula for all PODs under Apni Pathshala. This ensures that the curriculum is relevant, effective, and aligned with the organisation’s mission of promoting digital literacy and skill development.

2. Scope

This SOP applies to all PODs in Apni Pathshala, whether they have an existing curriculum or require a new one. The process includes both assessing existing curricula and designing new curricula based on the identified needs of the POD’s target audience. Any changes to an existing curriculum are optional and will be implemented based on evaluation outcomes.

3. Procedure Overview

Scenario 1: Assessing Existing Curriculum

  • Evaluate the alignment of the curriculum with Apni Pathshala’s goals and the effectiveness of its learning outcomes.
  • Changes to the curriculum are optional and can be proposed if needed based on the assessment.

Scenario 2: Designing a New Curriculum

  • If no curriculum exists, create a new curriculum tailored to the POD’s specific needs, ensuring scalability, flexibility, and alignment with Apni Pathshala’s educational objectives.

IMPORTANT THING – IF YOU ARE CREATING THE CURRICULUM, THE VIDEOS IN THAT SHOULD BE AROUND 10 MINS TO 5 MINS THAT HELP STUDENTS TO KEEP THERE INTERST GO ON BIG VIDEO IS BORING FOR THEM

4. Curriculum Assessment Process

Step 1: Gather Basic Information

  • POD Name
  • Target Audience: Define the grade level or age group of students.
  • Subject Areas Covered
  • Duration & Frequency of Classes
  • Teacher Availability & Capability: Can teachers run the lab according to the curriculum?
  • Daily Lab Usage Hours: Number of hours the lab will be occupied for learning.
  • Previous Exposure: Has the POD previously run digital labs or computer training?

Step 2: Stakeholder Interviews

  • POD Leader: Discuss the current curriculum, its effectiveness, and challenges. Assess the need for changes.
  • Teachers: Inquire about their teaching experiences, curriculum gaps, and the progress of students.
  • Students: Gather feedback on content difficulty, engagement, and whether the curriculum meets their needs.

Teacher Capability Assessment:

  • Can teachers operate computers and digital tools independently?
  • Are teachers capable of running the lab as per the curriculum structure?
  • Can teachers manage lab discipline, safety, and session flow?
  • Identify additional training needs if required.

Step 3: Evaluate Curriculum

  • Relevance: Does the curriculum align with student needs and industry trends?
  • Flexibility: Can the curriculum accommodate different learning styles and speeds?
  • Outcome-Based: Are there clear, measurable learning outcomes?
  • Technology Integration: Does the curriculum effectively incorporate digital tools and platforms?

Operational Feasibility Check:

  • Lab Feasibility: Does the lab schedule support the curriculum structure?
  • Teacher Availability: Are there enough trained teachers to implement the curriculum?
  • Infrastructure: Does the lab’s infrastructure (computers, internet, electricity) support curriculum execution?

Step 4: Final Evaluation and Recommendations

  • Assess feedback and determine if modifications are required.
  • If changes are necessary, propose specific adjustments to improve the curriculum.

5. Curriculum Design Process (For New Curricula)

Step 1: Define Curriculum Foundation

  • Learning Areas: Digital Literacy, Academic Empowerment, Skill Development, Employment Readiness.
  • Target Audience: Define the student grade level and background.
  • Learning Outcomes: Define the specific skills and knowledge students should acquire.

Step 2: Develop Course Structure

  • Modules and Lessons: Plan topics for each module, breaking them down into weekly lessons with clear learning objectives.
  • Duration and Frequency: Define the program length (e.g., 3 months, 6 months) and class frequency.

Lab Hours Allocation:

  • Define the number of hours the lab will operate daily.
  • Define the number of sessions per week and the maximum number of students per session.

Step 3: Teacher Preparation

  • Training and Resources: Provide teachers with the necessary resources, lesson plans, and teaching aids.
  • Teaching Methodology: Ensure teaching methods are interactive and adaptable to various learning styles.

Teacher Readiness Evaluation:

  • Assess if teachers are prepared to execute the curriculum
  • Evaluate teachers’ experience with computer labs or digital programs.
  • Provide short training sessions if required.

Step 4: Assessments and Feedback

  • Formative Assessments: Regular quizzes, projects, and assignments to track student progress.
  • Summative Assessments: Final exams or capstone projects to evaluate overall learning.

Step 5: Continuous Improvement

  • Regularly review and update the curriculum based on feedback from teachers, students, and assessment results.

6. Conclusion and Approval

  • Final Review: The POD leader or relevant authority reviews and approves the curriculum.
  • Implementation: Once approved, the curriculum is implemented, and its progress is monitored regularly.

Documentation: All versions of the curriculum are documented for future reference.
